Let's Take a Journey...

I guess a formal introduction is where I should start, I'm lover of everything to do with interiors mainly French. I love chocolate, champagne, great friends and family & definitely food!!! A good foreign film, a trip to the Art Museum or a new interior book will make my day! Oh and I'm also a painter. My first art class was when I was four years old in an art gallery in my home town. I was the only little one in my class and was I in heaven! I have a formal background in Interior Design and I worked many years in the furniture industry in St Louis, Missouri. Today I am dabbling in an art profession which includes murals and some wall art.

A perfect day for me would be window shopping in Saint Germain Des Pres with a fresh Baguette in hand from Paul's Bakery or perhaps sitting at home flipping through my favorite magazines with an iced sweet tea at my side & a sketch pad in hand thinking up my perfect home or maybe painting a playful mural capturing someones thoughts onto a wall where there are no boundaries.

In my blog I'd like to share my journey with you on my life, my loves and some of my works. I hope you'll be patient with me as I learn my way around the blog world and I'd love to hear your thoughts with me as I grow as a painter and designer. xoxo Miss Kris

Gwen Guthrie appreciation

During the last couple of weeks I've been really feeling Gwen Guthrie's solo material so I decided to devote a post to her. I should devote this post also to Larry Levan's mixing and Sly & Robbie's production because those are the key elements that make these tunes excellent.

These two songs are courtesy of DJ U-Tern. The first one is a great edit of this one and the second one is a banging blend.

Keni Burke - Hang Tight

I've earlier posted another track from Keni Burke that wasn't Risin' To The Top. I have nothing against that particular song. I just feel that Burke deserves attention and credit beyond that one song because he's an amazing song writer/producer/all around musician.

Hang Tight is a great uptempo tune full of 80's groove. It appears on Burke's best-seller Changes. There are a couple of 12" pressings of Risin' To The Top and Hang Tight appears on the b-side of this one.

Jill Scott - Golden (Kenny Dope Official Remix)

I love Jill Scott and I admire Kenny Dope so when you put these two together you'll have to end up with something extraordinary. And you do; this Dopewax 12" features amazing Kenny Dope remixes of Golden and Not Like Crazy. The record came out in 2005 but it still feels fresh. Original versions of these two songs are from Jill Scott's album Beautifully Human.

Jagg - Take Time (Extended Mix)

The original copy of Jagg's single sided 12" that features Take Time is one of the most sought after disco funk releases around. It was originally released by Delirium Records in 1983. According to danceclassics.net the value of the single can be as high as 800 USD.

Of course I don't have the original but luckily a re-issue of the single came out in 2004. This PTG Records re-issue features a a loud, good quality 6 minute extended mix of Take Time. The same version appears on this compilation.

Grandmaster Flash - Essential Mix : Classic Edition

I was referring to this mixtape in my previous post. After that I listened through the mix and decided to share it with you. Family Of Eve appreciation

Please Be Truthful and I Wanna Be Loved By You were originally released on a single by a tiny label called Jeree Records in 1979. Both songs are amazing but at that time they were left without any commercial success or critical acclaim. A bit later Full Sail Records also released 50 copies of the single.

The single is rare and it's on everybody's wants list so unless you have shit loads of cash you'll have to cop the tunes on Keb Darge's Legendary Deep Funk Volume 1 or Lotus Land's reissue of the single. These rips are from Keb Darge's awesome compilation. Enjoy!
