Kenny Smith And The Maximum Feeling - Skunkie

I went record shopping yesterday though I should have saved some money. Well, among many others I picked up Skunkie b/w Everybody Knows I Love You by Kenny Smith And The Maximum Feeling.

Skunkie is a great instrumental funky charger with an amazing drum break and a hilarious appearance by a guy who's high on helium. It was originally released by Kogan Records but there's only a few known copies around so Dopebrother Records reissued this gem back in 2006. Everybody Knows I Love you on the B-side is a nice soulful uptempo love song.

Stone old walls are lovingly holding up this wonderfully scented wisteria. This is a lavender loverly!!!

Harvey K-Tel - Boops Apocalypse

I've been mad busy lately and things will continue like that for some time. I'll try to keep updating the blog but you might not hear from me as often as before. Anyways, I got something for you for the weekend. Two great reggae blends/edits from a UK-based producer Harvey K-Tel. These tunes were released last summer on a 7" by Music For The People but I think you can still find it somewhere. Boops Apocalypse comes highly recommended. It takes elements from the live version of Woman Of The Ghetto and backs up the vocals with a solid reggae rhythm. Niceness.

Lavendar Loves

Hi Everyone~ As you know I love lavender and the many lovely possibilities it brings to a home. Perhaps in a little spare bedroom. This image I love! The linen lavender chair with the pretty ruffles. The chippy daybed looks so pretty in soft pima cottons with more linen lavender pillows. The striped window treatments framing the beautiful outdoors.

This bedroom with the small little touches of lavender are beautiful. I wonder if the stylist added these little touches for the punch of color. I love it! The lavender ribbons on the pictures flanking the fireplace and the ribbons tying up the magazines. I also like the soft butter yellows in the window treatment, the roses and the straw hat. Very Pretty!!!

This might be the winner for me. A wood crown with check lavender fabric matching the bed. I even love the chippy green stools at the foot of this bed. Fit for a princess or a guest. I have another idea for my lavender space for my next post. Think outside the box...or house. Does anyone have a lavender space? Or lavender love? Let me know...

Happy 50th!

Happy Birthday Barbie! The mademoiselle of all dolls. Thank you for all those wonderful years of playful imagination. Especially big thanks to your wonderful home that allowed me to be creative and sorta was the start of me painting on walls. That is... your Barbie home walls. May you have a relaxing day out and about.

King Tutt - You Got Me Hung Up

I'm pretty excited because I found a good deal for You Got Me Hung Up 7" by King Tutt (not to be confused with Bmore DJ King Tutt). It's an excellent piece of soulful boogie/disco from 1979 that I've been looking for a while. Well, it's not as rare as the 12" version. I've seen that one trading for 4 figures.

Usually I don't blog about tunes that I don't own but since I'm so stoked about getting a copy of this, I'll share a file with you. I don't have a good quality rip of the 7" version at hand but here's the slightly edited long version that appears on The Soul Of Disco.

D'Angelo appreciation

I have never liked the term neo-soul but if I would use it D'Angleo would be the king of the genre. Brown Sugar is easily the best album of the neo-soul movement. I'm sure you're aware of his situation. He really hit rock bottom but it seems that he's tightening up his game. His last studio album Voodoo came out in 2000 and every one has been expecting something from him ever since and now there's info that the new album should be out soon with collaborations with Prince, Raphael Saadiq and Mark Ronson. D'Angelo will be doing some touring as well in the summer. It will be interesting to see in which condition his amazing voice is and also to see how's his physical condition that used to be quite impressive. Spanish Joint is my favorite cut from Voodoo and and the other track is a great remake of I Found My Smile.
