Googie & Tom Coppola - Missing Love

I was watching this video clip of Kon and Amir picking up records at a store and chatting about their selections. It's a nice clip, nothing special but I always enjoy watching these and the choices Kon and Amir made were brilliant. I could have bought all the records except for Missing Love by Googie & Tom Coppola since I already have that one. It's a lovely, mellow soul joint with a great groove.

Just like Kon says on the video, the promo 12" of Missing Love and especially Shine The Light Of Love are rare and tend to be a bit pricey but I've seen this Columbia 12" quite often with a reasonable price tag so keep your eyes open for that one if you're into quality early 80's soul.

The flowers of summer...

I am still amazed by the flowers of summer...

Being raised in Arizona, the "flowers" were the blooms on the cactus..or cacti {plural of cactus-ssses}

But one memory that is SOOO strong is the scent of orange blossoms in the spring..intoxicating!

But that's in spring..and I'm talking about summer, remember?

OK, so here are some great summer visitors in the neighborhood...

OK, so that's enough sunshine for you today..now get some rest and we'll talk tomorrow..

Crisis averted....

I can't believe I did this..I was going to cook a dozen hard boiled eggs to amp up my protein since I'm no longer eating meat or poultry..

I set the eggs in the cold water and turned on the burner..then went & sat down with Mr. B & the pups..

..I COMPLETELY forgot about the eggs..I totally for.got.

A while {turns out to be a long while} later as we sat and watched TV, we kept hearing a noise from the kitchen..

At first we thought it was Mother-in-Law Evelyn fixing a snack or something..

A while later, we heard it again, this time sort of a popping sound.

Mr. B got up to look and being curious, I followed.

When we went into the kitchen, I STILL did not remember the eggs and smelling something, thought maybe it was a case of over-cooked popcorn or something..

That's when I saw the pan on the stove..

Oh. Crap....it was the eggs

Mr. B grabbed them and there was not a speck of water and the eggs were burned.  Burned.  In their shells..burned..along with a relatively new sauce pan.

I fear, really fear, I am becoming one of those who's gone beyond the "I walked into the room and forgot what I came in there for" type of people.

I could have burned the house down..

I could've..I really could've...

Boy..so I feel bad..

Hopefully this scared me into being more focused..

Hopefully..so I can say, with thankfulness..

crisis averted.

Well, who knew??

Knew what?

That I would do a 5K at one o'clock in the hot afternoon..just so I can say I did..

I did.

I did what? Know? Or did the walk?

Both :-)

Yes, I tried to talk myself out of it..you know..all the excuses I used in the past..

..too hot..

..bad time of day..I'm too busy, tired,  feet hurt..knees hurt..I might get sunburned..I need to tweeze my eyebrows..

no..wait..I've never used that last one..

It was a group effort by Weight Watchers and it was at Wheeler Farm.

So, walking past the animals, the ducks and geese, and the shade trees was really quite lovely.

The cottonwoods were ...uh..cotton-ing..and it looked like summer-fairy-snow-rain-.magical-thing and I had to stop and wave my hand through it..

Of course the other walkers were sneezing and grumbling  I'm sure thinking I was "odd"..

But that was OK..it was really pretty..I felt like I was in one of those snow-globes where the stuff is in slow motion..

So..I did a 5K...half of a 10K..a .5 of a 10K {that sounds better..} and I'm glad I did..

Yay..

OK, so...now...

What's your favorite hour..

{re-print because...well..I liked it..}

Not, are you a 'morning 'person or a 'night' person.

Not what's your favorite time of the day..like morning, noon or night..... What is your favorite hour?

Do you have one?

I do.

Surprise, surprise, huh?

It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I don't really know for sure why -it just always has been.

Ever since I can remember. Ever since I thought about it, which apparently has been for a long time.

4 o'clock.

Maybe it's because school's out...

.. but supper's not yet ready ....( my Mother always had supper ready at 5 o'clock )

Maybe it's because work day is almost done.

I'm not sure why I love it so much...the light's too strong in the summer for great photo shots.

But it is pretty in the winter..and in the fall, incredible..
There are even a few 'memorable' 4 o'clock for me....

Once, when we were thinking about moving from Colorado to San Francisco. I was already out there working, before the family joined me.

I went to the pier after finishing up my day early and saw the most incredible sight. At least it was quite incredible for a girl from Arizona by way of Colorado - seals!

On the landings - just soaking up the sun! And not in a zoo!

Real, live, WILD seals! It was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

I got so excited, people must have thought I had some sort of affliction.

But I remember it so well. One of the highlights of my constant "work travel " at that time.

Another time, another place. This time in Texas. We had just rented a house after living in apartments for a long time. Randy and I were recently married. The kids were having a blast in "their yard".

I remember it was a Monday. The restaurant Randy's Dad owned and we both worked at was closed on Sundays and Mondays. It was early fall - I think November. Just when the 4 o'clock sky needs a little help with indoor lighting.

I was cooking supper. We were NOT having fast-food, as we did most of the busy week. This was a day off, and I wanted to cook.

The kids were watching TV and some were  playing outside. I could hear them laughing and having fun. I felt as if it were as close to perfection as any of the families on TV I had grown up with. Now, if only I had on an apron....

A house. A husband. A family. Fall.

AND 4 o'clock.

Perfection!

So, what's YOUR favorite hour of the day?? Think about it - it might just stir up some pretty amazing memories.

A woman without a purse is like..ahh..a fish without a limp..

wha??

Purses – you know about my appreciation for purses…handbags…sachels..totes..carry-alls…

So today as I was heaving my new-sorta-new-to-me great new Liz Claiborne bag I picked up at DI (Deseret Industries ..our thrift store- isn’t it a dream??!!),

$3.00..no, seriously..THREE DOLLARS!
That's like 3 McDollar burgers at McDonalds..
...or 3 things at the Dollar Store..
"So how much is this pen?'
a dollar
..and this flashlight?
a dollar..
OK, so how about this can of beans??
A DOLLAR..

Then  I thought of why we need to carry bags at all..and felt sorta sorry for the men who don’t have anything to carry their stuff in..

Oh, I know, they can have a “Man-bag” ..but really, they have it pretty easy if they are with a woman who already has a purse.

“You have any Tylenol?”

“I could use some hand cream..got any in there?”

“Do you have a mint or some gum?”

“Nail clippers?”

“Comb?”

“Band Aids? Splints? Disinfectant? Snake bite kit??”

“Apples?”

“Fork lift??”

Yeah, we have bags like that, huh?

I found a rock once..and I really needed it too. We were somewhere where the napkins were blowing and I reached in my bag and plopped my rock down and the day was saved! Not to mention I was acting all GREEN and saving the environment from wayward napkins..

So it’s no wonder we have to have it all ...and  a place to carry it all..
