Milton Van Houten - Love Attack Vol. 2

I recorded a sequel for my early 2010 mix, Love Attack. Volume 2 takes of a bit smoother with deep 80's soul cuts before getting into foot stomping boogie. Things go as usual, lots of familiar cuts from the blog with other quality joints to go with them. All mixed with love, not skills, so bear with me.

Today is my Mother-in-Law's birthday..

..and she's actually in Las Vegas visiting her other son {Mr. B V2.0} and is having a wonderful time.  She'll be back with us next week..but I thought I'd tell you a little something about her..

Besides giving me the best gift {Mr. B himself}...

 she has led a very interesting life...

* Her Dad owned a carnival in Iowa for years - and she traveled around the Midwest with him.  She was even the "Head Without a Body" in the carnival..she tells us about driving into towns and seeing people sitting on their front porches drinking lemonade and waving...

* She lived in Iowa most of her early years...

* Worked for the telephone company for years - started out as a swithcboard operator..held many positions and  retired - then started a second career as a bank teller

* Has a gold belt {I think that's the color} in Tai Chi..and sometimes drinks Chi Tea {!}

* Watercolors like nobody's business

* Is on Facebook, plays computer games, crochets

* Watches Gene Simmons's "Family Jewels" show {wha??}

*Has been "Grandma Evelyn" to my kids..an "instant Grandma" almost 30 years ago to my 4 children when "Saint Mr. B" married and became Daddy to my kiddos - now she's a GREAT Grandma to my Grands..

* She gardens, takes wonderful care of the pups when we're at work or away, irons all of Mr. B's shirts and my ironalbe blouses {thank you thank you thank you}

* And...she can do more things with a pound of hamburger than anyone I know..{just ask me about the Bean Burgers!} and she makes a mean Rice Krispie treat..

* She has been a benevolent neighbor, helping with babysitting, gifts, food and even cash when needed and does not want credit or accolades..

So Happy Birthday Mom/Evelyn..we're so fortunate to have you in our lives..and you have been the Mother I always dreamed of having..

Soooo...

My head's in the clouds....again..

Yeppers, I love clouds.  I remember my first time flying through the clouds.

Although I really think I did....once.  Run run run really really fast..do that last skip-jump-hop and I'm up up up..

..but anyway..this past week-end while Mr. B did some major 007 secret stuff for his Mom's return from her vacation, I looked in the clouds..

and saw..
..a big bear..

..or big foot..or a thinner Michelin Man..
..waving.



..a French poodle..

Really...can you see him?

Beautiful clouds..beautiful variations in colors...beautiful place to take flight...don't you think??

Find some time, take the time, see the clouds..find the shadows..live your life...

Gotta love those Big-Town 4th of July parades....

..and if you have seen any this holiday weekend.., it probably wasn't in Arivaca Arizona..

They actually have a sign on the mercantile that said "Closed for 15 minutes for the parade"

Seriously..

But for the past few years, the Sullivan's have had quite a presence in the parade..

Our brother Larry drove his tractor, usually pulling a trailer full of beautiful grand kids..

..and tethered to the "float" was The Mighty Tomato ..

..but both are gone now, so my sister Gerri, who works at a care center in Arivaca (called CAREavaca..get it? Like Arivaca?)

..and {in between having breast cancer treatments and a heart condition..} decided to keep up the tradition..but with a slight twist..

So, she went to work to find the very first "Ms. Caravaca"..one of the residents of the care center..

Kathy had a sash made for "Ms. Caravaca" and Gerri dressed her in the finest riding gear, tied her feet into the stirrups, put a cowboy hat on her head....and made her day.

Gerri tethered her horse Edit, to Gerri's horse, Breezy, and off they went.

For 15 minutes..and for a lifetime of happy memories.

I think Larry and the Mighty Tomato would be proud..

Eastside Connection - You're So Right For Me

You're So Right For Me (1977) is disco at its finest. The sound of the golden era of disco with a foot stomping finger snapping beat, solid instrumentation and great vocals which make those cheesy lyrics sound just so right.

Eastside Connection with some great singles (e.g. You're So Right For Me and Frisco Disco) is an incisive example of the rise and fall of (mainstream) disco. The group released massive disco bombs and got some commercial success as well but as soon as disco was out of mainstream, Eastside Connection disappeared like so many contemporaries without leaving a mark. Well, we have their hits on rainbow colored vinyl so why complain.

Meet my newest GREAT-grand...puppy!

This is Ziva..and beautiful Alyssa.  Ziva is the chocolate Lab..Alyssa is the Granddaughter..my college girly-girl..

Alyssa like the show NCIS and at first thought her puppy would be a male..Jethro {Mark Harmon's character} but when she saw those milk-chocolate eyes..it was love at first nibble..with this sweet girly-girl puppy..so it's Ziva.{as in the strong, beautiful and smart actress} It's Hebrew meaning"splendour" or "radiance."

I think it's Alyssa-speak for the most adorable puppy-girl in the world!

Private Joy - Coolin Out

The weekend is here and it's one of the hottest day of the summer so far and I feel like cooling out. I think I'll put Private Joy's smooth synth boogie banger Coolin Out on repeat and sip some GTs on the balcony while waiting for the kick off of the second 1/4 final. Life is good, isn't?

My copy of this gem is from 1987. It's the UK release out on Champion Records. The tune is produced by Leon Haywood and it was originally released a year earlier on Haywood's own little label Evejim Records.
