What a cute little covey of quail !

Yes, that's what I thought as Braxton, Lulu and I were finishing up our morning walk.

We had already said "hello!" to the Pygmy goat -which reminds me - I need to find out it's name so I don't sound so silly saying "Good morning.......uh..goat" .....

Anyway, we were finishing the walk and nearing home, stopping at the somewhat busy street (like a car every 1.5 minutes or so) when I spotted a whole covey of quail! Ohhh! They are so fun to watch. They actually sort of waddle!

Only these I think were older- no babies with them- I think it may have been a senior citizen's field trip - some had that middle-age spread going on. And some were slow - looking like an old man with a walker.

Then I saw it. A car barreling down the street. He was driving east - towards the sun- which at this time of the morning is brightly coming over the Wasatch mountains. I just knew he didn't see them. Sunshine blindness and all.

I figured he'd probably see me though. I'm wearing a bright green LARGE shirt and neon pink Crocks.

 So I risk it all, holding the dogs back with one hand, getting into the semi-squat position with one hand raised in the universal "STOP!" sign while the quail slowly meandered across the wide street.

Now, mind you, I am not an expert on birds, but I swear they were looking a little indignant, heads held high - continuing their slow pace.

 The driver saw me - looked at me like, oh I don't know.... a "WHAT?? ARE YOU CRAZY ?" kind of look and stopped. Just long enough for the quail to reach the other side of the wide street and.............

FLY away!

Are you kidding me?? All the time I'm risking life and limb and pink Crocks you all could have just FLOWN AWAY?

... gotta love nature.....

Watch our for quail in the road...and  lime green-pink crocked ladies...

Melba Moore - Take My Love

Damn, this jam has been long forgotten but since re-discovering it today, I've been playing it on repeat. Such a strong boogie banger but what else can you expect when you combine a track written and arranged by Kashif, one of the greatest producers/pioneers of boogie, with really strong and soulful vocals by Melba Moore. Take My Love can be found on Moore's album What A Woman Needs (1981) and as a maxi single. Both should be inexpensive and easy to find.

If you're feeling Take My Love, make sure to check out DJ B.Cause's excellent edit of Love's Comin' At Ya, another Melba Moore boogie gem produced by Kashif. Get it from Diamonds In The Dust.

Do you know iTunes??

iHave an iTunes account here and at work..iLove  iTunes!

You can get just ONE track instead of buying the whole CD just because you love that ONE song..

And did you know there is a TON of free stuff?

Free is my favorite price ever..well, except like 90% off..which make my little heart just flutter..

OK, so yeah, iGuess free is even better..but sometimes you get what you pay for..

So, iReally  really like 90% off.....'cos that means it cost, like 100% at one time, and now, it's not just free-junk..it's 90% off something that once was worth 100% !  Plus the whole math-thing is totally easy..

Back to iTunes..

On their free stuff, iFound  listed under Podcasts (doncha just love all there new terms? Before iTunes,
iThought "pod cast" was the list of characters staring  in the Pod..huh....)

And all the "i" things?  iPod, iTunes, iPad, iPhones...

.....and my very favorite restaurant, iHop...

..and the way the "i" is always little and it is shoved up next to the CAPITALIZED next word??}

{iDo not own an iPhone, nay, iHave a Verizon Boulder..but, it IS a cool color..}

sooo..iWas looking at the podcasts and found some free Spanish lessons...

yeppers..free..totally free, like 56 lessons that you can listed to or burn to a disc {iThink..haven't really tried that yet..}

but anyway, iDownloaded the 56 lessons and started listening to them with my earbuds (hahahaha..another funny one..not little friends of my ears.as in ear buds...hahah..oh wait, they ARE little friends of my ears..even funnier!!}
OK, so, iAm  listening and iStart giggling..now remember, iHave earbuds and really can't hear my self except inside my head..

but my co-workers can hear me..

You wanna know what's  soooooo funny?

OK, the two people who were teaching me Spanish...

..... in my ears were.....

Scottish!

I'm not makin' this stuff up..they had the most Scottish accent since Scottie on Star Trek..

and, shouldn't Bones have had a Scottish accent too?  Ah, come on.....seriously..McCoy??

So, if you ever want to learn Spanish from 2 lovely Scottish people, download YOUR free iTunes podcast..
it'll make a wee bit o' sense..

Tom Brock - I Love You More And More

This week's edition of Sunday Soul features Tom Brock's underrated gem I Love You More And More. It's a classy smooth soul cut with an intro that gives me the chills every time I hear it. The track (and the album) is produced by Barry White and Gene Page and you can clearly hear it in the production. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. The Love Unlimited Orchestra drums, strings etc. are top notch as usual but it's Brock's unique style and his soulful voice that make this track really stand out.

Tom Brock is a great soul singer and a talented song writer as well. Too bad his musical legacy is rather concise. He recorded just one album and wrote some songs (for example (A Case Of) Too Much Love Makin') for Gloria Scott's superb What Am I Gonna Do but that's pretty much it as far as I know. If there's something else worth checking out, please point me in the right direction.

OK, so it was reeeeaaaalllllyyy slow @ work today, sooooo

..I had a chance to play with my cheap-o watercolors and water and brushes...

One of my favorite artists is Martha Leaver ( http://marthalever.blogspot.com/ ) and recently she posted a tutorial on "5 minute flowers" and I loved them :-)

So, I watched about a billion times a couple of times and thought I'd give it a try...

I've always wanted to work with water colors but they intimidate{d} me..

With oils and, you can move the paint around...paint 'wet-on-wet'..have some give..

...with acrylics, you have a little bit of pre-dry time..

..but with water colors, as soon as it hits the paper {or within a minute or so} you're committed..

So, practice, practice, practice...

oh, that would be for me..you don't have to..unless you want to try....in which case, I'd watch Martha's videos..and maybe even take a class or two.. five..I'm just sayin'

Then, Melinda from http://melindasfabricfancies.blogspot.com/ asked about one of the photos from last week's Sushi-fest..
OK, Melinda, it's a wristlet I made from one of my fabric flowers.

{no..do not enlarge the photo..yes..I know..those ARE age-spotted-chubbette-hands }

Have a really great Saturday..
..and whatever you feel like creating...art, food, a loving home, a happy day..just go ahead and enjoy the whole process... your creativity will shine...

Do you remember the song "Love the One You're With"??

OK...this will test your Karaoke skills...

Stills, 1970

If you're down and confused

And you don't remember who you're talkin' to

Concentration slip away

Cause your puppy is so far away.

Well, there's a rose in a fisted glove

And the eagle flies with the dove

And if you can't be with the pup you love

Love the pup you're with

Love the pup you're with

Don't be angry, don't be sad,

Don't sit cryin' over good things you've had,

There's a pup right next to you

And she's just waiting for something you do.

Well, there's a rose in a fisted glove

And the eagle flies with the dove

And if you can't be with the pup you love

Love the pup you're with

Love the pup you're with..

Smiles :-)
